National Nutrition Council Cites Marinduque as “Outstanding Province in the Region”

BOAC, Marinduque, Dec 11 (PIA) — Marinduque was awarded “Outstanding Province in the Region” by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in partnership with Department of Health last November 27 at the Imperial Palace Hotel, Tomas Morato Ave., Q.C.

The Municipality of Mogpog bagged the 1st Place for the Regional Outstanding Municipality with Roxas Oriental Mindoro as 2nd Placer. Mogpog also won the Municipal Nutrition Green Banner Award together with Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, San Agustin, Romblon and Narra, Palawan. For the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Norberto B. Sususco, who won as first placer, was from Brgy. Poblacion, Narra, Palawan. Maricon Mijares of Brgy, Manlibunan, Sta. Cruz, Marinduque won the second place, while Melanie L. Bantan of Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan bagged the third spot.

Dr. Violeta O. Reyes, daughter of Gov. Carmencita O. Reyes, acknowledged the awardees and spoke in behalf of the governor. She thanked all the BNS workers and the Provincial Nutrition Office, headed by PNO Robie Apiag, OIC-NNC Eileen B. Blanco and Dir. Jose R. Llacuna Jr., OIC-Regional Director, Central for Health and Development (CHD) Mimaropa and chairman of the Regional Nutrition Committee.

Director Llacuna said the awards were given in appreciation of the accomplishments of the nutrition workers. He also called on the people from the Mimaropa region to fully support the nation’s health programs and promote the NNC’s mission by practicing nutrition in their homes.
